Unlike other RPGs, the non-boss fights of this game don’t comprise solely of encounters with generic units. According to the story, three characters establish a small militia to protect their village from Yellow Turban Rebels, who are the followers of the sorcerer named Zhang Jiao. The storyline is based upon the historical event in the 14th century novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, which itself focused on events and conflicts appeared before and during Three Kingdoms of ancient China. The game is based on the manga series of Hiroshi Motomiya, which unfolds the story of Chinese historical figure named Liu Bei and his brothers named Guan Yu and Zhang Fei.
